Danny was a powerful person. As a teen he picked up a 19-foot wood V-hull boat with 75 hp motor (plus the trailer) to line it up behind the car I was driving. Since I was unable to pull the boat straight under a carport, Danny got out and lined it up behind the car, lifting it by the stern and pivoting it on the trailer ball.
Danny entered the U.S. Coast Guard in the mid 1960's during the Viet Nam war. He went to Engineman School in Yorktown Virginia and served for over ten years predominately in search and rescue assignments. Due to blood pressure problems Danny received a medical discharge.
After leaving the military Danny used his mechanical knowledge and skills in civilian life working on marine engines. He was an avid boat racer and a strong promoter who brought racing back to Lake Murray.
Danny had several strokes and heart-attacks through the years and also suffered with diabetes. Being a disabled veteran Danny entered the Veteran's Hospital in Columbia S.C. and was later transferred to Palmetto Richland where he passed away.
Surviving Danny is his wife, Cindy Thornhill Agnew; sons, Michael Allen Agnew and his wife, Michelle, Evan Chanler Thornhill; a daughter, Codie Chance Thornhill; sisters, Nancy Singlar, Cindy Farr and Sally Zobel; brothers, Tommy Zobel and Perry Zobel; grandchildren, Ty Allan Agnew and Joshua David Bordeaux.
