Sidney was born in Gatesville, Texas to William Joel Blair and Mary Eva Busby. The family moved to San Antonio when he was a baby. Sidney graduated from Main Avenue High School (now Fox Tech) in 1924. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. Sidney and Elizabeth Anne Stafford were married in January 1948 and divorced in September 1966. They had two children. They remained friends to the end.
