Anita L. Bando, age 66, of Portage, passed away Friday, February 15, 2002. She was born, February 1, 1933 in Sheridan, Indiana, the daughter of Harold and Lena (Wiggs) Henry. A Portage resident for 41 years, she was married to Henry J. Bando on May 2, 1953 in Gary, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1990. She was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School and held the office of Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Portage for 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion 289 Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, James (Sallie) Bando of Hobart and Mark Bando of Bloomingdale, Illinois; three grandchildren, Amy Bando, Brett Bando and Eric Bando; one great-grandchild, Allegra Bando-Hart; numerous nieces and nephews and many other family members and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, one brother, Keith and one sister, Kathleen.
A visitation will be held, Monday, February 18, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Engel Funeral Home, 2700 Willowcreek Road, P. O. Box 1100, Portage, Indiana 46368. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at McCool Cemetery in Portage, Indiana at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Henry of Immanuel United Methodist Church of South Bend officiating.
