OBITUARY: The Republican (Oakland, Maryland), Thu, 12 Sep 1907 - Page 1 (NOTE: Death notices published in The Evening Times (Cumberland, Maryland), Sat, 7 Sep 1907 - Page 1; The Cumberland Alleganian (Cumberland, Maryland), Thu, 12 Sep 1907 - Page 7)

MRS. MARGARET JANE KEPNER

Mrs. Margaret Jane Kepner was born November 18, 1821, at Emmittsburg, Md. She lived there during her girlhood and in 1850 was married to Enos D. Kepner, of Adams county, Pennsylvania. Together they came to Oakland in October 1854, and lived here to the time of her death. As a result of this marriage eleven children were born: Jospeh, Frank, William, Martha J., Flora, Jacob E., Mollie, Nettie, Harrie, John, and Alice. Of these, Frank, Joseph, and Harry are dead and those living are William Kepner, of Grafton, W. Va.; Mrs. Martha Alexender, of Morgantown, W. Va; Jacob Kepner, Scottdale, Pa.; Mrs. Mollie Getty, Cumberland, Md; John Kepner, Grafton, W. Va.; Mrs. Flora Porter, Alice and Nettie Kemper of Oakland, Md.

Mrs. Kemper joined the M. E. Church shortly after the civil war and was a faithful member in the time of her death. Of late years she had suffered from rheumatism and had been prevented from attending church regularly but had always kept up her membership in the church. In Oakland she was well known and always had a cheery word for those with whom she came in contact.

Those present at her funeral besides her sons and daughters were Mr. Benjamin Kepner, Mr. Jas. Coldwell, Gettysburg, Pa.; Charles Lantz, Edward Manown, Baltimore; and Frank Manown, Phillipe, W. Va.; Dr. Percical Lantz, Alaska, W. Va.; Joseph Lantz, Davis, W. Va.

Mrs. Kepner's funeral took place Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from her late residence, the services being conducted by Rev. J. B. Workman, of St. Paul's M. E. church, assisted by Rev. John M. Davis. The pall bearers were Messrs. Fred A. Thayer, S. E. Shriver, George M. Mason, Charles S. Davis, A. D. Naylor, and D. M. Dixon. The interment was made in the Oakland Cemetery. (Obituary compliments of D. G. Keener, Find A Grave member 46963989; Note: Obituary reformatted for readability.)

NOTE: The obituary incorrectly records 1850 as the year Margaret and Enos Kepner married. The year should be 1851. R. Friend.
