Gerald S. "Jerry" Johnson, age 74, of Glenville, departed this life on December 14, 2008, at 10:20 p.m. at his residence following a two-year battle with cancer.
Born June 5, 1934, in Summers County, the son of the late Dolphus and Gwendolyn Frantz Johnson.
On April 21, 1959, Jerry was united in marriage to Frannie Thompson Johnson, who survives at their Glenville home.
Surviving are six children: Gerald S. "Jerry" Johnson Jr. of Barboursville, Beverly Tomblin and husband Frankie of Loving, TX., Mark Johnson of Charlotte, NC., Kimberly Adkins and husband Brian of Morgantown, James "Jim" Johnson and wife Marcia of Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert "Tony" Johnson, of Painted Post, NY.
Seven grandchildren survive: Joshua Holloway, Crystal Cook, Alex Tomblin, Ashley Cook, Benjamin Tomblin, Cody Cook, and Christian Johnson.
One brother and seven sisters also survive: Curtis Johnson of Newton Falls, OH, Barbara Cales of Washington State, Nancy Neely of Hinton, Maxine Payne of VA, Annabelle Bennett of Covington, VA, Mary Alice Tucker of Columbus, OH, Dorothy Tucker of Columbus, OH, and Linda Eggilton of Richmond, VA.
Jerry was preceded in death by one brother: James Edward Johnson.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville with Rick Beck officiating. Private burial services after cremation will be held at a later date, at the convince of the family. Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisting the family of Jerry Johnson with arrangements.
