Mathew William Barger, 80, a farmer, died at his home at Gilmore Mills, early Sunday. He spent his entire life within a mile of the place where his grandfather settled on the James river in 1700.
He was the son of the late John A and Betty Fry Barger. His wife was Miss Octavie Kennedy, who died four years ago.
Surviving are three daughters: Mrs Elizabeth Watts and Mrs Lillian Lotts, of Natural Bridge, and Miss Rubye Barger, of Gilmore Mills; two sisters, Mrs Virgie Hatcher of Gilmore Mills and Mrs J N Sizer of Bluefield, W. Va.; one brother, G W Barger, of Natural Bridge; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the High Bridge church, Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock by the Rev B L Wood, the pastor. Interment in the church cemetery.
