Elmer was born in Elk Creek, Nebraska, July 11, 1905, the second son of the late John and Addie Gibbs. He came with his parents to the Pipe Creek neighborhood in Cloud county, in 1909. His mother died a year later. The father brought his three boys to Delphos, where he cared for them as best he could. He died in 1927. Wilbur, the oldest brother, resides in Delphos, and Lester in Colorado. He could not be located in time to attend the funeral. The grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Jones, of Elk Creek, Nebr., is still living.
Elmer spent one year in the regular army, where he received several merit badges. He had to shift for himself from the time he was a little boy.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Monday afternoon, in charge of the pastor, Rev. J.A. McClellan. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Ethel Thurston, Mrs. Floyd Powell, Mr. B.S. Chance and Mrs. L.D. Clingenpeel, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Jack Stephens. Interment was made in the McAllister Cemetery, several miles northeast of Delphos, and he was carried to the last resting place by Johnny Farmer, Louie Pounds, Frank Kline, Jesse Dameron, Lornie Crusha and Bill Somers.
