LOGAN, Utah - Mary Aldridge Washington died March 14, 2002.

She was born September 21, 1933, in Farwell, Texas, to John and Lillian Aldridge, who preceded her in death.

Mary (Melle to her husband and friends) was educated at Stephen's College, Texas Tech University and the University of Texas. She received a doctorate in English renaissance literature from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1969. Her book on Sir Phillip Sidney, a poet of 16th century England, was published by the University of Missouri Press in 1971.

Mary was director of the Utah State University Press from 1969 to 1979 and she taught in the university's English department for several years.

Mary is survived by her husband, Gene; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bob Mehler, of Boulder, Colorado; her cousin, Pat Campbell, of Fort Myers, Florida; and by her nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday March 18, at noon at St. John's Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary.
