Funeral services for Joseph Enniss Culler, 85, of 5539 Duffield Road, Chambersburg, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg. He died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999 at home. Born March 28, 1914 in Waynesboro, the son of the late Abram H. and Alma Paxton Culler., he was a 1935 graduate of Waynesboro High School and he was owner-operator of the former Culler's Sunoco Service Station on Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. He also had worked as an orchardist, school bus driver and auto mechanic, was a custodian at Duffield Elementary School, and a machinist at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro and Chambersburg Engineering Co., from which he retired in 1980 with 18 years service. Mr. Culler was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, Chambersburg and was choir director for 30 years and a Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of AARP and Golden Opportunity Club, both of Chambersburg, a member of the Golden Agers Bowling League and the AARP bowling league. He played on softball teams for his church and Chambersburg Engineering, and for several years he managed the Duffield Darts softball team.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys E. Baker Culler; a daughter, Sharon Mowery of Chambersburg; a son, the Rev. Garry L. Culler of Fayetteville; a sister, Lois Dengler of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two sisters. The Rev. Dr. Daryl M. Elliott will officiate at services. Burial will be held in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg and Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to his church.
