He was born Dec. 4, 1913, in the town of Lincoln to Fredrick and Alma (Polinski) Steinke. As a child he attended Green Meadow School. He farmed and did carpentry work. Albert entered the army in 1941 and served in Australia. After the war he moved to Milwaukee where he was united in marriage to Ella Polinski on Nov. 25, 1959. He worked at Ladish Fittings in Cudahy as a machinist until he retired.
Albert entered the Fall Creek Valley Care Center in February of 2002. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cudahy for many years. In 2003 he rejoined St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek where he had been a member for many years prior.
Survivors include his daughter, Irmgard (Richard) Kangas of Pewaukee; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Kersten and Betty (Elmer) Wilhelm of Fall Creek; and one sister-in-law, Helen Steinke. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella, who died June 15, 1986; one daughter, Harriet; one grandson, Paul Kangas; five brothers, Donald, Marvin, Fredrick and Burnette Steinke and Lawrence Polinksi; two sisters, Loretta Pehlke and Norma Vance.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Stokes and Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway (Highway 12 E.), in Altoona with Pastor Douglas Brandt officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Bayview.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral chapel.
