John Ellett (b. 1813) was the son of John Ellett Sr. (b. March 7, 1766. d. Jan. 6, 1834) and Frances King Coleman (b. May 17, 1788. d. Sept. 28, 1852) of Hanover Co., VA. John Sr. was the son of Thomas (1735 – Sept. 10, 1787) and Judith Cox Ellett. Frances was the daughter of Thomas and Millicent Winn Coleman. John Sr. and Frances were married Oct. 14, 1802.

John Jr. married Sarah J. Higgason (b. 1825), Nov. 1846.

John purchased the southwest quarter of Section 29, Township 23 North, Range 3 East consisting of 160.04 acres in Tallahatchie Co., MS, from the U.S. General Land Office on Nov. 19, 1859. In 1860, John listed his real estate valued at $24,000 and personal property at $27,430.

John and James S. Rowland were witnesses to the will of Cade Alford, signed Nov. 14, 1842. John and James Rowland lived near Cade's son-in-law, Hambleton Dogan, in 1850.

Frances, oldest daugther of John and Sarah J. to survive to adulthood, married Harmon Hays Bloodworth, March 3, 1868, in Tallahatchie Co., MS. No record of Frances' death and burial are known at this time.
