Funeral services for John William Stoos were held Tuesday, May 22, at 2 p. m. at the Community church in Cannon City, with the Rev. William D. Herrstrom and Bix Nauman officiating. A family service was held at the Parker Funeral Home at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday. Miss Dorothy Mulliner sang "God Understands" and "Now I Belong to Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Nauman. Pallbearers were Bruce Whitmore, Montevideo; Robert Hoover, Mankato; Ardell Eastman, Kenyon; Ellsworth Stoos, Medford; and Floyd Stoos and George Hortop, Richland. Interment was made in Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Mr. Stoos died suddenly Saturday, May 19, at Minneapolis, where he was visiting with his son. He was born in Richland township March 18, 1876, the son of Nicholas and Sarah Stoos. He attended the local public schools and then graduated from Pillsbury MIlitary Academy in Owatonna. December 24, 1903, he was married to Miss Floy Irene Chambers at Owatonna. Following their marriage they moved to Richland, where Mr. Stoos farmed until 1937. They then moved to Cannon City, where Mr. Stoos has since made his home.

Mr. Stoos is survived by his two sons Everett of Faribault and John of Minneapolis and his daughter Harriet of Trona, Calif. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Jay Griffin of Owatonna and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1945, a sister, Mrs. Nettie Eastman in 1947 and by two brothers, Henry Stoos in 1948 and Jim Stoos in 1950. Mr. Stoos was a member of the school board in his district in Richland township for many years and took an active interest in other township affairs. He was a member of the Cannon City community church and had served as church president.

(Thompson) Stoos, natives of Germany and New York, respectively. The father came to America in 1850, with his parents. He came to Rice county as a young man and located in Richland township, sections 19 and 20, where he erected farm buildings, made improvements and did general farming until 1904, at which time he rented the farm to his son, J. W., and moved to Owatonna, where he lives at the present time. The subject of this sketch acquired his education in the district schools of Richland, which was supplemented by five years' schooling at Pillsbury Academy at Owatonna. Leaving school, he came back to the old homestead, where he still remains, carrying on general and diversified farming. Mr. Stoos was married in 1904 to Floy, daughter of H. B. Chambers, of Owatonna. The fruits of this union are two children, Everett W. and Ruth H., who are both living with their parents. In politics he is affiliated with the Prohibition party. In religious faith he with his family belongs to the Baptist Church. He has served as clerk of the school board in district No. 21 for the past nine years.
