John Carl Mann was born in Illinois. In 1916, he and several brothers moved to near Great Falls, MT and homesteaded. John was married to Mary xxx and they had 3 chidren. They later divorced. In 1939 he married Margaret Komar of Stockett, MT area. They had 8 children,John Jr, Richard, Dale, Kathleen, Edward, Gerald (Jerry), Beverly and Donna. John and Margaret separated in later years but were never divorced. He lived on a small farm 3 miles north of Great Falls. He was always active and kept up to date on events by daily reading the newspaper. In 1980 John suffered a minor stroke when leaving his dentist's office. It was deemed that for his own safety he should live in an assisted living facility. He lived in Waters Nursing Home for a few years when he suffered a broken hip at around age 89. This required that he then was moved to the Park Place Nursing Home. This was unfortunate since he was confined to bed or wheelchair and without his mobility he rapidly deteriorated. John passed away in November 1985. He was cremated and his ashes buried on the family farm.
