JUDGE ALLEN J GOODWIN

The honorable Judge Allen Jackson Goodwin was born June 4, 1924 in Fannin County, the son of James White and Mamie Sue (Rogers) Goodwin. He died September 3, 2004 at the age of 80, after losing the battle with pulmonary fibrosis after 4 years of never complaining and never losing his sense of humor even at the end.

Judge Goodwin attended school in Bonham. During his senior year, he went into the Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor three days after it was attacked. He served three years in the war and was discharged in June 1945. He also served in the Air Force Reserve during the Korean Conflict.

Judge Goodwin married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Wynell Carpenter and they made their home in Dallas. He started his career with American Airlines and then went to work for the Federal Aviation Agency, starting out as an air traffic controller and becoming an instructor. He was with FAA for over 30 years, receiving numerous commendations for his outstanding service. He retired in 1979.

Judge Goodwin and his family lived in the Mid Citiies area before coming to Bridgeport. After moving to this area he was very involved with the community serving on the Lake Bridgeport City Council, as Mayor and then Municipal Judge. After retiring he worked another 10 years. He moved to Boonsville where he has resided for 17 years and served on the Boonsville Fire Dept. In 2002, as a Veteran, he graduated with the Bonham Senior Class receiving an honorary diploma. While living in Mid Cities he was a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. Presently, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Edward Goodwin.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine of Boonsville, son, Gerald Goodwin and wife Mia of Coppell; daughters, Susan Gossett and husband Ken of Comanche and Von Hawkins and husband Rob of Bridgeport; grandsons, Shane and Allen Eaton, Blake Allen Goodwin, Trey and Chase Hawkins, great-grandchildren, Colt and Alyssa Eaton; brother, Gene Goodwin and wife Betty of Wakeman, Ohio, sister-in-law, Aline Goodwin of Haltom City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral service was September 5 at the Hawkins Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul Sands officiating. Graveside Service was at the Gober Cemetery with Rev. Cody Nelson officiating. Pallbearers were Don McAfee, Rollins Bilby, Don Penney, Paul Wood, Bobby Rogers, Jack Weiland, and Jim Wilson.
