Teacher, dietician and housewife. Second wife of Herbert J. Hoffmann and stepmother to George K. Hoffmann.

According to the 1910 federal census, Esther was then living in LeSeur Township of Kingsbury County, South Dakota. She was born to Paul and Minnie Fuerstenau. Esther was the third of four siblings. The children were: Erna, Elsie, Esther and Hilda. Paul was a grain buyer for the local grain elevator there. Paul, born in Germany, immigrated to the USA in 1894; Minnie was born in Minnesota. There were two children who did not survive.

Esther had married Rudolph Lenz in Henry, Codington County on September 9, 1934, and was widowed in 1937 when he died. In the 1940 federal census for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Esther had become a dietician at a clinic, was shown as the head of household and her younger sister, Gladys (born in 1917), and her sister-in-law, Ella Lenz, were living with her.

Subsequently, in 1948 she married the widower, Herbert Hoffmann in Wisconsin.
