Peter F. Morettini, well-known young San Jose attorney and professor of law on the faculty of Santa Clara University law school, died earlySunday morning, Dec. 1 at O'Connor Sanitarium of bronchial pneumonia.
Morettini was prominent as a student of the arts and sciences, and won many prizes during his collegiate years. he was widely known in fraternal and legal circles. He was a member of San Jose council No. 879 Knights of Columbus, a fourth degree member of Portola assembly, San Jose council No. 2 Native Sons of the Golden West; president of the Swiss-American Social club, a member of San Jose post89 American Legion, a member of the California State Bar association, and the Santa Clara Bar association. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Joseph's Church of San Jose.
A requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul at the Santa Clara Mission chapel by Father Crowley. The eulogy was delivered by the Rev. Edward J. Whelan, S.J., of St Ignatius church, San Francisco. Members of the Portola council formed the guard of honor. Both the student body and faculty of Santa Clara University attended in a body. Interment was in Santa Clara Catholic cemetery.
Morettini was 31 years of age when death cut short his promising career. He was a man to whom the Catholic ideal meant everything andhe could never do enough for its advancement. He was an outstanding student winning many honors including Archbishop Hanna's medal in religion which he won twice. After having won highest honors in many of cum laude from Santa Clara university. After this Morettini opened law offices in San Jose and became a member of the university faculty, winning the respect and esteem of all. Later he entered into law partnership with Randall O'Neil, whose self-sacrificing efforts to save his life proved of no avail.
Morettini is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Morettini and brother of Joseph L. Morettini of San Jose and Dr. Paul Morettini of St. Helena. He was born in Santa Cruz and attended Holy Cross parochial school there.
