His parents were Mr. Jose Fuentes Alemán, deceased in 1969, and Mrs. Victoria Martinez de Fuentes who passed away in 1996. He was the third of eight children. In 1941 he entered the United States Army. During his stay in Puerto Rico, he met Myriam Haydee Colon in 1942, and after an engagement of four years they were married in June 26, 1946. In the Army he visited Panama, Trinidad, and USA; receiving a Sergeant's ranking in 1945. On July 5, 1947 their first daughter, Myriam Haydee Fuentes was born. Soon on May 27, 1951 their second daughter Maria Magdalena Fuentes was born. Next, came their first son, on July, 1 of 1954, Jose Fuentes Jr. Later on April 8, 1963, their fourth and last son would be born, Jose Jaime Fuentes. Don Jose Fuentes Martinez worked as a salesman of office equipment in the Casa Lee of Puerto Rico, receiving a salesman of the year award in 1967. Years later, he worked as a District Manager in the Century Metal Craft where he retired in 1980. After retiring he dedicated his free time to cultivating plants and to bird watching in the patio of his house. On October 31, 1982 their first grandson, Ernesto Gabriel Vazquez was born. Years later, on November 23, 1993 their granddaughter Adriana Fuentes was born. Don Jose Fuentes always enjoyed a good sense of humor and never tapeworm anger. One of its favorite phrases was "it's better to ignite a candle than to curse the dark". Our dear father offered the best legacy a father can give to his children. He always stressed dignity, strength of character, love and goodness to us. For that reason, we will always hold him dear to our heart. We feel very proud and happy, for which he has been indeed ,the one who touched our lives. For that reason, today we say to you, Papi thanks for that precious legacy you offered to us and "may the son of the carpenter be always with you".
