Al A Akin, Jr. SAN DIMAS, CA - Al A Akin, Jr. died October 14, 2002, in San Dimas. He was born October 7, 1921 in Oklahoma. Married Beverly Brown, February 2, 1942; later sealed in the LDS temple.Al was a veteran of World War II. Attended Brigham Young University. He then moved to Tooele, Utah, where he worked in the Optical Division at the Tooele Ordinance Depot. That was the beginning of a career that brought him recognition in that field. He moved to California where he worked for Bushnell/Bausch & Lomb as a head designer. The company received many patents that were credited to Al. He was given the distinguished honor of "Fellow" from this company. NASA awarded him for his contribution to the landing on the moon. He was a published writer and wrote articles for many sporting magazines. He lived in West Covina with his wife and four children until the death of his wife. He is survived by Alan, Mike, Troy Akin and Lisa Jackson and their spouses; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His funeral was October 20th, 2002. Burial in Oakdale Memorial Cemetery..
