Elizabeth "Betsy" Foster - Smith believed to have been born in Murray County Georgia or perhaps Murrayville, GA. Her stone reads "Granny" Smith "born 1806", died 1891. The census records for 1850-1870 indicate she was born 1816. She married George William "Absalom" Smith in 1835 Gilmer County Georgia, the first marriage recorded in the county. Elizabeth "Betsy" or "Granny" would have been 19 years old when she married.
To date her parents have not been found, it is believed by some family members she was part Indian other family members do not believe she was Indian.
Three descendants were told her full name was Elizabeth Catherine Julia Ann Jollicothe Grathender Ellender Williams (Foster) Smith.
