She was born July 12, 1916, in Franklin Mine Location, a daughter of the late Andrew and Kristina (Kauhanen) Erickson and attended the Hancock Public Schools. In later years, she received her high school diploma from the Ferndale Hgh School in Ferndale, Mich.
In 1934, Lempi moved to the Detroit area where she first worked as a domestic in homes and later, for the Detroit Public Schools, retiring in 1972. She also did volunteer work for nursing homes and a church daycare center.
On January 26, 1940, she married Willard Aho. In 1979, the couple moved back to the area, making their home in Sing Sing Location.
Lempi was a member of Hope Fellowship of Houghton. She had a love for animals and music and also enjoyed walking, skiing and upholstery.
She is survived by her husband, Willard of Sing Sing Location; three sons and a daughter, David Aho of Watrousville, Mich., Pastor Robert (Martha) Aho of Greer, S.C., Mary Aho of Hancock, Dan (Katia) Aho of Holly, Mich.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Andew Erickson of Vassell, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lempi was also preceded in death by a brother, William Erickson; and three sisters, Lillian Huse, Anne Landstrom and Mayme Erickson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor Paul Marin and Pastor Robert Aho to officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and an hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
