World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Longwood, Victoria, Australia, he served as a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion, Australian Forces. In actions at Lone Pine Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, August 9, 1915, Lieutenant Tubb with two Corporals, captured a trench which was being counter attacked by the enemy. As the enemy advanced up and blew up a sandbag barricade, Lieutenant Tubb led his men back, repulsed the enemy and rebuilt the barricade. Twice more the enemy blew in the barricade, but although wounded in the head and arm, he held his ground, assisted by his Corporals, maintained the position under heavy bombardment. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross, promoted Captain and later achieved the rank of Major. During the Menin Road attack, 3rd Battle of Ypres France, September 20, 1917, while leading his company he was mortally wounded by shell-fire.
