Frank Kenneth Edwards was the first child of Anna & John Edwards to survive infancy (an older brother died at less than 1 year of age in 1914). He was born in 1915 at home on Kansas Ave. in the Armourdale section of Kansas City, Kansas.

In the Summer of 1920 the family, now consisting of sister Elizabeth and brothers George and Art, migrated by car to California. Joining the family on the trip was Frank's Aunt Kate (his mother's sister).

After a brief stay in the Lucerne Valley with Frank's paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, the family relocated to Los Angeles where they moved fairly frequently to find more affordable housing for their growing family (a new brother Willis (Bill) and sister Barbara).

Frank graduated from Fremont High School in 1933 at the height of the Great Depression, the only child to finish High School at the normal age. It was also a tragic year as his father abandoned the family that year, never to be reunited with them. This had a sad and lasting effect on Frank and all members of the family.

After graduation Frank joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and was stationed near Sequoia National Park. After a year with the CCC, he became a machinist at Repcal Brass, a Los Angeles plumbing fixtures company. The family has a wonderful photo of him at work on a lathe there.

In 1941 Frank married Lorraine Schmitt whom he had met at church. They lived with her parents in Los Angeles when first married.

Franks's WWII service was during the Occupation of Japan, 1945 - 1946. He was deferred earlier, during the actual war, due to his company converting their product line to military hardware, probably bomb casings or something similar.

While Frank was in Japan, Lorraine had her first child, a son (1946). After Frank returned to the USA, 4 more children were added to the family, 2 girls and 2 boys. The family lived in in Compton, CA until moving to Lakewood in 1972.

Frank worked as a machinist his entire life at several plumbing manufacturing firms. But Frank's greatest enjoyment was when he was on the baseball field or doing "something" related to baseball. He played baseball when young and after his children were born became a Little League Coach for the Phils in Compton.

Frank retired from his work in 1981 and over the next several years enjoyed a series of car trips with Lorraine as well as with his sons. He also thoroughly enjoyed being "Grandpa" as his children married and had children of their own.

Frank died in 1996 after a major stroke suffered at home in Lakewood, CA.
