Amos was the first settler of Narrow Lake (ca. 1837-40). There was a large swamp bisecing Brookfield Township, known as the "Black Swamp." The family homestead (the first house built at Narrow Lake) was located just south of the cemetery.

He was the son of Jonathan and Luana Carrier of Cayuga Co. New York

He married Elsie Tichenor and had children Permelia, Edward and Hickford.
