James Lawrence King was the son of James and Margaret Chambers O'Neil King. He married Rebecca Sophia Blount. They had the following children: Acosta King, Dosier King, Mary Jane King 1844-1913, Rufus L. King 1846-?,Virginia P. King 1847-?,Julia King 1849-?, James P. King 1852-?, Marion King 1854-?,Texas King 1856-1908,William Walter King 1859-1930,Frances Norvella King 1860-1942, George D. King 1863-1933, Calquit King 1865-1873 and Bascom King 1867-1911. He was one of the Columbia County Pioneers as he was living in Columbia County, Fl in 1843. In the 1850 Census James L. King is listed as 35 yrs. old, with a wife, Sophia, age 23 and children Mary J. (7), Rufus(4),Virginia (3), Julia (1).His occupation is listed as a Merchant. In the 1860 Census in Columbia County, Florida he is listed with a wife, Rebecca(35),and the above children plus 4 more children: Texas(4),James P.(8),Marion(6), and one unnamed male child, age 1. It should be noted that he married Rebecca Sophia Blount, so the Sophia and Rebecca listed in the censuses are the same person. Sophia died in 1907, and is buried in the Piney Grove Baptist Cemetery in Henry County, Alabama along with several of the King children.The Federal Mortality Census shows that James King died of Heart Disease.
