Kate met Myron Axenty in 1949 while she was shopping at the store with her friend, Joan Mills. Myron asked Kate out on a date. They went to some movies and walked on the beach at night. Myron proposed on Valentine's day on the beach. He didn't have a ring yet, but bought the diamond and had it mounted at either Broadway or May Company. Kate said "yes" right away.

They were married on June 11th, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. An unusual day of the week, but the union closed the meat departments on Sundays. They had the reception at Grandma Bahner's house on Ave I. Attendees included Myron's parents, grandparents, the Laughtens, and the Bahner families. They spent their honeymoon at Big Bear and rented a boat with an outboard motor and cruised around the lake for awhile. Kate was scared to death and she couldn't swim. Kate and Myron had two children; Richard, born August 1951 and Shari, born July 1955.

Myron and Kate lived in Manhattan Beach, Costa Mesa, Torrance, Redondo Beach and Paradise, Calif. In 1968 they moved to Salem, Oregon. In 1972, after Myron lost his sister to cancer, he and Kate moved back to California so Myron could help his nieces and nephews. In 1980, Myron and Kate moved to Oceanside where later he retired from the meat-cutting business.

In 2003, they made their final move to Surprise, Arizona because Myron was very ill. He wanted Kate to have a new home and car so nothing would need "fixing" and they would be closer to Kate's sister, Carmella.
