He was born near Advance on Feb. 21, 1908, to the late John and Lillie Simpson Smith. On May 20, 1933, he married the former Maxine Chapman in Advance.
He had been employed in a number of occupations in his life, Delta Rock Quarry, Ragsdale Construction Co., Central Packing Co. and Lumsden Block Co.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 417 in Whitewater and was a member of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bobbie Locke; a brother, John W. Smith; and two grandsons, Joe Bob Licke and Jeff Houseman. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Burial will be in the Morgan Memorial Garden Cemetery in Advance.
