MT. VERNON — Linda Sue (Leathers) Bleeks, 56, of Fairfield, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at 9:45 p.m. at the home of her mother and step-father, David and Elsie Sons, after a long battle with cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Linda was a graduate of Fairfield Community High School Class of 1973. After graduation, she worked at AMF in Olney. In January 1976, she started working for attorney Terry Black in Mt. Vernon, and worked there until her health declined earlier this year. Linda was a lifelong Cardinals fan and also collected ducks and roosters. She was an avid bowler and belonged to a ladies bowling league at Nu-Bowl Lanes in Mt. Vernon. Linda was a member of the VFW and American Legional Ladies Auxiliaries and the Enfield Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Maple Hill Cemetery with brother John Ashby of Mt. Vernon officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to go directly to Maple Hill cemetery columbarium. Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home of Fairfield is in charge of arrangements. Per her request, she will be cremated and she will be inurned at the columbarium at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Linda was born in Fairfield on Aug. 18, 1955, the daughter of Ivan and Elsie (Simpson) Leathers.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Elsie and David Sons; two sons, Tyler Bleeks at home and Matt Bleeks of Phillipstown; her brother, Larry Leathers, of Seattle, Wash., along with nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
Memorials may be made to the Tyler Bleeks Education Fund or the SSM Good Samaritan Hospice and will be accepted at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home, 106 N.E. Fourth Street, Fairfield, IL 62837.
