On 12 Aug 1862 David, a mechanic, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 38 years, 7 months and 16 days old.
On 17 Sep 1862 he was wounded at The Battle of Antietam, Washington County, Maryland.
On 8 Jan 1863 David ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts due to disability from wounds received in action.
David Jenks died on 12 Dec 1895 at Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He was 71 years, 11 months and 15 days old.
