Lawrence L. "Benny" Benson of Springfield died Sept. 4 of numerous illnesses. He was 73.

Benny was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Carl and Buelah Whitehead Benson. He married Dorothy Faye Nelson in Wichita Falls on Dec. 11, 1954.

Benson moved from Wichita Falls to Springfield and then to Marcola, where he lived for 27 years before moving back to Springfield in 1994. He worked at Georgia Pacific's Springfield plant for 22 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, making crafts, furniture and cabinets. He liked to witch wells. He enjoyed gospel music and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Ozzie, Curtis, Timothy and Troy, all of Springfield, and Laylen of Eugene; a daughter, Nena Rowena Bavaro of Springfield; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchil- dren.

Burial at Upper Mable Cemetery. Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
