Rhoda Long was the daughter of John Long and and Jane Conway. The Longs and Conways were early settlers to KY and Rhoda was less than a year old when Ruddle's station was caputured by Indians under British Capt. Bird. Members of the Long and Conway families were captured by the Indians.

Rhoda married Robert Ground II in Mercer Co., KY; they had 10 children: (1) Mary (1800-1847) (buried at the Goodnight Family Cem., Three Forks, Warren Co., KY) with her husband Isaac Goodnight; (2) Rhoda (1815-1902) (buried at Ground Family Cem.) who married Burr Greer and returned to Three Forks upon the death of her husband; (3) William (1819-1891) (buried at Ground Family Cem.) who married Nancy Wheatley; and (4) John Grounds (1799-1874) who married Prudence Jamison and Elizabeth Ann Doty, (5) Henry (1804-1881) who married Nancy Smith and Eliza Ann Boydstun, (6) Edward (1809-1885), (7) Drucilla (1811-1856) married Jacob Gardner Boydstun, (8) Margaret (1813-1891) married Clayton Stribling Beckham, (9) Robert III (1817-1879) who married Elizabeth Goodnight, daughter of Isaac Goodnight and Elizabeth McMurray., and (10) Harrison (1825-1874) who married Mary A. Wilson, daughter of Giles Wilson.

She was taken care of by her son William after the death of Robert until she died in 1863.
