She was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Carolina, a daughter of the late Bishop Charles William Gilles Sr. and Myrtle Brady Gilles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Fry, who died in 1975.
Surviviors include four sons, Charles W. and his wife Kelly Fry of Fairmont, Ronald Richard Fry, Larney D. Fry and Harry L. Fry, all from Rivesville; a daughter, Martha Jean and her husband Junior Freeland of Worthington; three sisters, Ruth Holt of Rivesville, Lora and her husband James Tupes of Parkersburg, Shirley and her husband George Tennant of Farmington; five grandchildren, Bill Fry (who Veda helped raise) and his wife Janet of Morgantown, Jessica Freeland of Rivesville, Misty Fry of Fairmont, Keri and her husband Ray Thompson of Rivesville and Junior (JJ) Freeland of Worthington; several nieces and nephews; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Fry; one granddaughter, Martha Rachel Fry; one brother, Charles W. Gilles Jr., who died in the Korean Conflict; and two infant sisters.
Veda was Pentecostal by faith and an active member of the Rivesville Lions Club. She previously worked with the Rivesville Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Marion County senior aide, and was previously employed with the Union Mission janitorial services.
Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper Street, Rivesville, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Pleasant View Community.
