Ross Haven Funkhouser was the third of ten children born to Parmer Cornelius Funkhouser and Mary Ann (Birnell) Funkhouser.

He was born in Illinois and moved to Indiana at an early age growing up in the Logansport area. He moved to Mishawaka, Indiana to get his start in the meat industry at Major Brothers Packing Plant. Ross spent his life as a sausage maker and became well known and respected throughout the meat industry.

Ross married Myrna Isabell Tabler on Saturday November 1, 1930 at 1:00 pm in the parsonage of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Logansport, Indiana by pastor Adam Schwing. This marriage was to last until his death 64 years 8 months and 20 days later. They had five children - one girl and four boys - Betty, Floyd, Eugene, Dennis, and Robert.

In 1957 he moved to Alachua, Florida where he spent the remainder of his life. He retired from the Copeland Sausage Co. where he helped build the company into one of the largest sausage plants in the state of Florida. After retiring from Copeland Sausage, he did some consulting at numerous sausage plants around the country. When he was finally finished with that, he helped his son Dennis who owned a service station in Alachua. He could never sit still for very long.

After suffering from heart problems for thirteen years, Ross's heart finally gave out and he died at 1:18 pm on 7/11/1995 in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida at the ripe old age of 89 years . He was one month and 4 days short of his 90th birthday.

Ross's funeral was held in the Church of the Nazarene in High Springs, Florida with Rev. Carl Romey officiating. Evans Funeral Home of High Springs, Florida was in charge of the arrangements.

He was one sport model and is greatly missed by family and friends.

Ross H, Funkhouser, 90, of Alachua, died Tuesday, July 11, 1995 at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Champaign, Il, Mr. Funkhouser came to this area from Mishawaka, In. He had retired from the Copeland Sausage Co.

He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Funkhouser. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Funkhouser of Alachua; a daughter, Betty Gentry of High Springs; three sons, Eugene Funkhouser of Palatka, Dennis Funkhouser and Robert "Bobby" Funkhouser, both of Alachua; two brothers, Clinton Funkhouser of Logansport, In, and Paul Funkhouser of Osceola, In.; a sister, Inez Godrey of Loganspot, In,; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 1995 at the First Church of Nazarene in High Springs, with Rev. Carl Romey officiating. Burial was in Newnansville Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home, High Springs, Fl.
