Bob, as he liked to be called, was born to Olive O. and George B. McCamey on September 25, 1925, the same day the discovery well for the McCamey Field in West Texas was completed. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth and attended Culver Military Academy and Paschal High School prior to joining the Navy at age 17. He was stationed in North Africa during World War II with Patrol Bombing Squadron 127 and flew PV-1 missions over the Mediterranean as a Flight Engineer and Gunner. Upon his return to the states he attended TCU and entered the oil and gas business. On June 25, 1948, he married Ninette Young, his loving wife for 48 years who died in September 1996. He loved the oil and gas exploration business and was a founding member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, President of the Fort Worth Petroleum Landmen, a Primary Organizer of the East Texas Petroleum Landmen, a Certified Petroleum Landman and a director of the Fort Worth Petroleum Club. He loved golf, flying, Republican politics, horse racing, hunting, fishing and Ruidoso, N.M.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. McCamey Jr. and Rebecca Brantley McCamey; grandchildren, Robert Mason McCamey, William Brantley McCamey and George Marshall McCamey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
“We love you and will miss you granddaddy.”
