He was born November 29, 1878 in Slovakia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Handzo. He had lived in Streator since 1901. He was united in marriage with Mary Stavar in St. Stephen's Church here November 14, 1904. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1946.
Surviving are nine children: Ann (Frank) Washko, Mary (Andrew) Pouk, Catherine (Andrew) Elias, Irene (Thomas) Hall and Florence (Raymond) Shull, all of Streator and Margie (Dale) Gehrke of Centralia, and John, George and Michael Handzo of this city.
Also left are two sisters: Mrs. Helen Danko and Mrs. Elizabeth Rettof, and a brother, George Handzo of Streator; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one child who passed away in infancy.
Mr. Handzo was a retired coal miner and was last employed by the Anthony Co.
He was a member of St. Stephen's church and St. Stephen's Society.
