Dr. Collins was a retired dentist, chairman of the board for the Knox County Health Department and the Barbourville Tourism Commission and formerly served on the Union National Bank Board of Directors. He believed in the Baptist faith and was baptized in the waters of Bad Branch Falls. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling.
On June 7, 1969, he was united in marriage to Ella Kaye Hammock in Whitesburg and to this union three children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella, and a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bobby Banks.
Survivors include three children, Andrea Grubb of Barbourville, Dave Collins and wife, Amy, of Barbourville and Derek Collins and wife, Amy, of Cannon; his fiancé, Brenda Hannahs of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Paula and Collin Grubb, Cooper, Cayden and Cashton Collins and Ellie and Samuel Collins; a special aunt, Mary "Murna" Collins of Bottom Fork; among many other special loved ones and dear friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Barbourville Monday, August 6 at 6 P.M. with Rev. Sylvester Dunn, Rev. David Barnard and Rev. Shane Nickell officiating.
