An illness of several months duration proved fatal to Alfred C. CARPENTER, 66, father of policeman, Marcus CARPENTER and former merchant and school teacher of Breathitt county. He died at his home in Fayette county Tuesday morning, January 17, at 7 o'clock.
The body was brought from Lexington Wednesday morning and taken to the Faith Mountain Mission near Noctor where funeral services were held at 1 o'clock that afternoon. Rev. W. L. KASH of Irvine conducted the services. Interment followed in the Lazarus Bach cemetery on Quicksand.
Mr. CARPENTER was well known and widely related. Besides his mercantile business and teaching, he held various of official positions in the county and took an active interest in political affairs. He was the son of the late Steve CARPENTER.
Mr. CARPENTER was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and the Masonic Order. Breathitt Lodge, 640 of which he was a member, had charge of the services at the grave, Moss NOBLE in charge.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Ida BACH CARPENTER. Mr. CARPENTER is survived by nine children: six sons, Marcus of this city; G. C. CARPENTER OF Scotts Bluff, Neb.; Maurice, John, Paul, Kelly and W.C. CARPENTER, all of Lexington; three daughters, Mrs. K.M. BRENTFERGER, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. J. BERGER, Cheyenne, Wyo; and Mrs. S. LANGLEY, Hollywood, Fla;, also a step-daughter, Mrs J.V. WALTMAN, Hazard. One brother, Kinney CARPENTER, Lexington and two sisters, Mrs. Price HOUNSHELL, Noctor, and Mrs. Arthur BACH, Lexington.
