Connie Mae Barnett, a loving mother and grandmother, departed this life on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the age of 75 at her home in Fresno, California.
Connie was born in Keystone, Oklahoma on October 26, 1932 to Mary McLaurin. When Connie was 12 years old, her family relocated to Fresno, California. On December 24, 1949, she married her husband, Charles Barnett, and together they had three daughters: Deborah Barnett, Althea Barnett and Mary Barnett. Charles and Mary Barnett preceded Mrs. Barnett in death. Connie was an active church member and Sunday School teacher at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed embroidery and baking. Connie's Teacakes and Gingerbread were known masterpieces to all of her family and friends. She was affectionately called "Nana" which was a name given to her by her eldest granddaughter back in 1974.
Connie is survived by her daughters, Deborah and Althea Barnett, of Fresno, California; one brother, Clifford Henderson of Fresno, California; four granddaughters, Melanie Jackson of Oakland, California, Connie Falls of Atlanta, Georgia, Carrie Laney of Fresno, California, and Laurin Laney of Fresno, California; three great-grandchildren, Michael Whitefield III, Astiee Carver and Syre Grayson; she also leaves to cherish her memories a host of family and friends.
