Curtis C Abston, 86, of Grants Pass died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Three Rivers Community Hospital's Dimmick campus.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. until service time at 9 a.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel. Pastor Mike Hale of Provolt Community Church will officiate.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1910, at Monterey, Tenn., and was raised in Oklahoma. On Feb. 9, 1940, in Shawnee, Okla., he married the former Geneva Waldon. In 1948 the family moved to Grants Pass from Delano, Calif. He worked as a gangsaw operator at Murphy Creek Lumber for 20 years, retiring in 1977.

Abston was a member of Provolt Community Church.

In his retirement, he volunteered at Seniors Are Loved Totally (SALT). He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, vegetable gardening and he enjoyed being with his family.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Meg Lewis of Richland, Wash., Duke Gibson of Gold Hill and Arline Wegley of Seattle; a sister, Eileen Tippin of Tulsa, Okla., a brother, Hubert Abston of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Lee.
