Mrs. Akers, widow of Joseph Akers, who has been ailing for many years, passed to the beyond last Friday night. The immediate cause of her death was erysipelas and malarial fever. It will be remembered that her husband Joseph Akers preceded her to the spirit world several weeks ago. Her remains were interred by the side of her late husband in the Eminence cemetery. She leaves several children and other relatives besides many friends to mourn her loss.

Emily Nancy Springer Akers was the daughter of James Patterson Springer and Frances McCortney. (See the affidavit of James Riden concerning the heirs of William R McCortney). "Frances, a daughter, who intermarried with James Springer," "Affiant further states that John McCortney, Marion McCortney, Emily McCortney, and James McCortney all died without issue and that neither of them were married at the time of their death. Affiant further states that Frances Springer died sometime in the early sixties, about the same time as the death of her father, Alexander McCortney, and that the said Frances Springer left surviving her as her only heir and legal representative, a daughter, Nancy E. Springer; that the husband of Frances Springer died in the Army a short time prior to the date of the death of Frances Springer." According to the census records, Emily Nancy Springer was born about 1862. She was living with Minerva (Springer) Summers, her father's sister, in 1870. Minerva also had a daughter named Nancy. Probably both of these girls were named after their grandmother, Nancy Vaughn Springer, wife of John L Springer. James Patterson Springer enrolled in Co C, 8th Missouri Inf (Confederate) on Aug 7, 1862. His muster roll records can be found on Fold3. The last date available for him is Oct 31, 1862.
