SIOUX CITY | Darwin Leonard Bauerly, 78, of the Leeds neighborhood of Sioux City, died on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital, with his family by his side.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 2320 Outer Drive, with Deacon Larry Sitzman officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa.
Darwin was born June 6, 1934 in Hinton, Iowa, to Floyd and Marie (Harding) Bauerly. He was a graduate of Westfield Schools in 1953. Shortly after graduation he entered the Iowa Army National Guard becoming a mechanic. He was called to active duty twice during his career with the guard, retiring in June of 1994 after 41 years of service.

He married Yvonne Smith on Sept. 23, 1958 at Kennewick, Wash. The couple had two children, Jody and Lane.

He was a member of St Michael Catholic Church. Darwin enjoyed tinkering and being the neighborhood handyman. He also liked to visit with people while doing a little gambling at the boat in Sioux City.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Bauerly of Sioux City; a daughter, Jody and Dean Snyder of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Aaron and Teri Bauerly of Spearfish, S.D., and Sierra Bauerly of Houston, Texas; brother, Corwin and Janice Bauerly of Sioux City; and a sister, Mercedes and Ron Drees of Aurora, Colo.

He was preceded by his parents and a son, Lane Bauerly.
