Henry was the Stahlberg's sixth born child. His siblings included sisters Lydia, Mena, and Mary Stalhberg, and brothers William, August, and Frederick Stalhberg.
Henry also was half brother to Anna Marie Stahlberg, his father's daughter from his first marriage to Anna Marie Elizabeth Vogt-Stahlberg, and who had died while Anna Marie was just a child.
Henry Stahlberg's father, Herman had served in the Union Army, during the Civil War, having enlisted on the 11 of May 1961, and mustered out of August 11, 1861. He had belonged to Company E, Unit 5 U.S. res. Corps, Mo. Inf. and held the rank of Corporal during this period.
Henry was 7 months old in 1870. His father was a wagon maker. By 1880, Henry's father owned the wagon shop and Henry's older brothers, William, age 17, and August, age 15, were employed by their father, at the wagon shop. Ten year old Henry and his younger brother, eight year old Frederick were attending school, during this period.
Henry was just 15 years old when his father, Herman H. Stahlberg died, on August 26th, 1885. By 1890, Henry and William were living with their widowed mother Anna Mary, on North Fourth Street. Both boys were employed and helped to support their aging mother. William was a clerk in a dry goods store, while Henry was employed as a bricklayer.
Following the death of Henry's mother in February of 1900,
Henry married, Menna Eggert, in 1901. It was the first marriage for both. Daughter Melba Stahlberg was born in 1904, followed by the birth of her sister, Ada, in 1906.
1910 found Henry happily married with two precious daughters, and a loving wife. He continued laying bricks for home builders in the City of St. Louis.
1912 would be a year Henry's family would never forget. On April 3, 1912, Henry, who suffered from Diabetes, fell into a diabetic coma and died. He was 42 years, 5 months, and 15 days old.
His grieving widow, Menna, faced the difficult task of raising their two small daughters, Melba, who was eight, and little Ada, who was six years old, alone.
Henry H.Stahlberg was laid to rest on April 6th 1912, in St. John's Cemetery. His funeral was under the direction of Walter E.Ludner, of 5402 Florrisant Avenue.
