EUGENE L. STUMPH
---Eugene Leonard Stumph, 73, of LaPlata, died at 12:15 Wednesday afternoon (May 1, 1991) at Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center.
---Born July 23, 1917 in Bellville, Illinois, he was the son of Louis and Katherine Stumph. On October 14, 1940 in St. Louis, he married Gladys Fae Crawford, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Glen E. Stumph and three grandchildren, Joseph, Jason, and Jean Ellen, all of Olathe, Kansas.
---He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and one infant son.
---Mr. Stumph had been a resident of La Plata since 1960, where he served as a police officer and had held the office of police chief for 21 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 282 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines from 1942 to 1946. He was active as a Little League baseball coach in LaPlata for many years.
---Mr. Stumph donated his body to science at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. No service will be held.
