Betty Lou Adams Thomas
1922 - 2012

Betty Lou Adams Thomas, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Orem, Utah, on Thursday, August 2, 2012.

She was born on August 7, 1922, in American Falls, Idaho, to George William and Lettie Marie Bowler Adams, the fourth of six children. While growing up, she lived with her family in American Falls, Blackfoot and Pocatello, Idaho.

In 1934, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, California, where she graduated from high school in 1940. About that time, she met her future husband, Albert Thomas. He entered training as a B-17 navigator after World War II broke out, and they were married in Monroe, Louisiana, on October 17, 1942.

After the War, they made their home in Los Angeles, California, where three of their four sons were born. In 1950 they moved to Orem, Utah, where Albert worked in a sheet metal shop and they cared for the family fruit farm. Their fourth son was born in Utah. Betty worked hard at many tasks connected with the fruit farm, the family and the household. In September, 1961, Albert was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in October, 1962, they and their sons were sealed in the Manti Utah Temple. They have remained faithful to each other and the Church; in October Betty and Albert would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She gave long and faithful service in church callings. In 1979-1980, she and Albert served a full-time mission in Tonga. She was ward Relief Society president three times and was a name extractor for many years.

Betty was an avid traveler, and she and Albert especially enjoyed excursions with their siblings and their spouses and with their sons. Throughout her adult life she suffered chronic kidney disease, held in check by advancing medical research. She was a cancer survivor, and her mobility was limited following a knee replacement. In all of these challenges, she remained sweet and patient.

Betty is survived by Albert, her husband of nearly 70 years, and their four sons: David (Paula), Steven (Penny), James (Maria), all of Orem, and Dan (Micki), of American Fork. She is also survived by her brother Donald Adams (Carol) of St. George, Utah.

Her special legacy is the enduring love, devotion and optimism she conferred on her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty and Albert have 31 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren.
