the following from F.A.G. member Norman Donoghue (48379527)

Roy T. Brumbaugh, Jr., the youngest and only boy of four children of Rev. Roy T. Sr., originally of Philadelphia, and Peggy Valentine of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, grew up as a preacher's kid in the places where his dad held charges as a Presbyterian pastor; Atlanta, GA, Coatsville and Philadelphia, PA, and Tacoma, WA. He was proudest of his time spent in the military, At ae 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. Later, during World War II, after registering for the draft, he joined the U.S. Marines and fought in February and March 1945 against the desperate Japanese troops at Iwo Jima, a bloody but victorious island battle that cost many American lives. An iconic photo of the American boys raising the flag on a mountain top there forever seared the name Iwo Jima in the American Memory. The after-effects of the battle (probably post-traumatic stress syndrome) cost Roy personally in ways we will never know or understand as he was never the same person again. Roy's first marriage was in about 1950 to Connie whom he met at church, but it did not last long. Roy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Seattle in 1952 and served 321 days, mustering out as a corporal at Albuquerque, NM. He received a congressional bonus for having served in the Korean War. He soon found a second wife, Winnie DeAlata Franklin, whom he married in Dallas, TX, in 1953. His father died suddenly in January 1957 at age 66. Roy Jr. and Winnie (or "Dee") lived together in Tacoma until a November 1974 divorce. After that, Roy Jr. lived mostly with his mother in Tacoma until her death in her 102nd year, after which time he entered the Soldiers Home in Orting, WA, in 1998. He was well cared for there and nephews and nieces looked in on him. He died at 86 and is buried near his parents.
