GLENBURN - Dorothy Rose Simmons, 86, died Aug. 4, 2012, after a long illness. Dorothy was born April 18, 1926, to Austin L. and Rhoda (Hector) Gordon, the oldest of seven girls and one boy.

She was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1944, and later worked at many Bangor area shoe factories. Dorothy enjoyed ice skating from age 6 through her high school days and into adulthood with her own children. She enjoyed attending state fairs and harness racing, as well as candle pin bowling. She loved traveling to New Brunswick and Gage Town, to visit her uncle and cousins. Dorothy had been an active member of Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Norman J. Simmons; a sister, Louine McFadden; and an infant brother, Sandy Samuel Gordon. Surviving are two sons, Gordon Simmons and his wife, Lisa, of Bangor and Norman "Itsy" Simmons Jr. and his wife, Crystal, of Glenburn; one daughter, Ruth Simmons and her friend, Bruce Knights, of Glenburn; 5grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; five sisters, Mary Landers of Bowie, Md., Gladys Green of California, Jeanette Leeman of Bangor, Jackie Lopez of Massachusetts and Vera Edwards of Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn. (Bangor Daily News 8/5/2012)
