Veda Annette Burnette Beard, 80, of the Enon community in Walthall County, Mississippi died Dec. 28, 2003, at her residence. She was born May 21, 1923, in Walthall County, the daughter of Carley Burnette and Ella Wallace Burnette.

Sis. Annette was a faithful charter member of New Bethel Jesus Name Church for over fifty-four years.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Robert L. Beard, who she married on Feb. 14, 1942, and was an exceptional homemaker, a fabulous southern country cook, who had specialty dishes that everyone loved and raved over. No one could make Chicken Dressing like she could, and a few other of her specialties were Chicken and Dumplings, Greens, Homemade Biscuits and Tomato Gravy. Her pastor's wives, Sis. Hancock, and later SIs. Reed, always wanted her to make her chicken dressing for their meals when they had special guests coming. Sis. Annette was so willing to help prepare meals at the church for camp meetings. You could always count on her to be there pealing potatoes, by the hundred pound sacks, and slicing and dicing veggies for the salad bars. She would be found at the quilting bees and any other events that involved the ladies of the church. A faithful saint of God, who loved her family and so many friends, who loved her as well.

Preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, infant Vernon, Vernell, Gerold, Thurl, and Brock Burnette of Jayess, and James Burnette of Zachary, Louisiana; one sister, Eunice Nell Blackwell of Jayess.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Beard of Enon; one daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Darryl Harris of Cabot, Ark.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Beard Jr. and Linda Beard of Enon, Keith and Ellen Beard of Brookhaven, and Gilbert Beard of Baker, LA; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Opal Burnette of Hattiesburg and Geraldine Burnette of Baker, Louisiana, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, and grandsons-in-law, Josh Beard, Kevin Beard, Jonathan Beard, Darren Beard, L. Darryl Harris, Dathan Harris, Phillip Smith and David Walker.

Visitation was Tuesday 5:00 P.M. 12-30-2003 at New Bethel Jesus Name Church, and continued until services there at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday. Pastor Larry Reed and Rev. Bobby Lambert officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Capps Funeral Home of Tylertown in charge of arrangements.
