Charles S. Affolter, 87, of Rockton died at 1:10 a. m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 in his home from heart disease. Born January 20, 1925 in New Philadelphia, Ohio to Mr. Charles S. Affolter and Marie Ellis.

He was a lifelong resident of the Rockton area. He married the former Lois Wendt in Menominee, Michigan on January 22, 1949. He was employed as a lab tech by Warner Electric Break (Dana Corporation) until his retirement.

A veteran of World War II serving in the United States Airforce. He was a member of the Old Stone Church, Rockton American Legion, South Beloit VFW, and The Honor Flight. He also volunteered with the Rockton Fire Department as Fireman.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Callahan of North Aurora; son, John (fiancé and caregiver Brenda Thompson) Affolter; grandchildren, Steve (Julie) Doyle, and Robert Doyle; great-grandchildren, Amanda Jackson, Samantha Doyle, and Steven Doyle; great- great grandchildren Edward Jackson and two more on the way; sisters, Kathryn Grunn, and Cornelia "Torny" Green; brother, David Ellis; and nephew, Tom Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Paul Ellis.

Funeral Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd. Rockton, with Reverend Dan Herman, pastor of the Old Stone Church officiating. Burial in Rockton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home Monday, August 6, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
