He had a degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from April 1943 to September 1945 in the 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division. He made three combat landings on Kwajalein, Saipan and Iwo Jima. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received on Saipan.
He retired at age 70 from Rosemount, a division of Emerson Electric.
He was an active member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where he served as treasurer for many years. He served as chairman of the board of Methodist Retirement Services of the Texas Conference during the 1990s.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Tower Cochran, two daughters Carolyn Cochran of Santa Fe, NM, and Adrienne Cochran of Seattle, WA, and by son-in-law L. Clark Man of Santa Fe, NM. He is also survived by a sister Rhea Cochran Austin and brother-in-law Richard Austin of Arlington Va., three nieces, Patricia Austin Ting, Penny Tower Cook and Jeanne Tower Cox, and five great nephews.
Memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079, at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Burial will be in Cochran's Chapel Cemetery, Dallas, Texas at a later date.
