Schmeisser, Melissa "Missy"

Schmeisser, Emily

Melissa "Missy" Schmeisser, 17, and Emily Schmeisser, 14, daughters of Steve and Michaelynn "Mickey" Schmeisser, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident. As they were inseparable in life, together they proceeded to the next life.

Melissa was born Sept. 14, 1987. She graduated from Holy Family Grade School and was currently a junior at Notre Dame Academy where she was a member of the Spanish Club, the backstage crew for musicals, and forensics. Melissa aspired to become a doctor and was selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine in Los Angeles. She was an honor roll student every semester of her academic career and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Emily was born June 19, 1990. She graduated from Holy Family Grade School and was currently a freshman at Notre Dame Academy. Gifted in drama, Emily played Lucy in the Christmas play, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and was to play Essie in the spring play, "You Can't Take It With You". She played intramural volleyball and was proud to be on the honor roll. Emily volunteered at the Howard YMCA.

Melissa and Emily were both members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, active as altar servers and as church time leaders. Both volunteered at the YMCA's "Camp Kermit."

Survivors include their parents, Steve and Mickey Schmeisser; their paternal grandfather, Ralph Schmeisser; aunts and uncles, Lynn and Jim Spiegel, Jean and Kevin Soufal, Guy and Paula Breese, John and Vanessa Breese, Dan and Janet Breese, Peggy and Scott Nimz; their special friend, Mike Bennett; cousins and many friends.

They were preceded in death by their paternal grandmother, Arlene Schmeisser; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Sally Breese.

Funeral arrangements remain pending until June due to Mickey's recovery and the return of Melissa's and Emily's classmates from the Notre Dame Academy's Spanish Club trip to Costa Rica.

A memorial fund has been established.

Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In keeping with Melissa's aspirations to pursue a medical career and as a tribute to selfless values of Emily and Melissa, both girls donated organs and tissues for those in need.
