Augustine P. Caruso, 82, of Cliffwood Beach, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012 at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark. He was born in Newark and had lived in Colonia before moving to Cliffwood Beach 50 years ago. He was a retired truck driver for Local 641 for 43 years and member of the Teamsters Retiree Club. After his retirement he worked as a crossing guard for the Aberdeen Police Department for 20 years. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving honorably during the Korean War. Augustine was a member of the Matawan Italian American Club and had the honor of being named man of the year. He was also honored as Citizen of the Year from Aberdeen Township. He was a member of the Aberdeen Recreation Department and the American Legion in Keyport. One of his proud achievements was receiving the Million Mile Award from Mac Trucking for logging 1 million miles without an accident during his trucking career.

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Francesca Caruso, 3 brothers Carmine, Peter and Louis, and a sister Rose Cicelese. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Dolores Caruso, 2 sons and a daughter-in-law Carmine and Colleen Caruso and Augustine T. Caruso, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law Deborah and Michael Podolsky, Sherri Caruso, and Juli Ann and Andy Vassallo, a sister Sr. Theresa Caruso, 7 grandchildren, Michael and Desirae Podolsky, Daniel Lowther, Lindsay, Lauren and Elizabeth Caruso, and Andrea Vassallo, and 4 great grandchildren, Isabella and Christopher Lowther, and Olivia and Molly Podolsky.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12th from 3pm - 9pm at the Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ. Funeral from Waitt Funeral Home at 9am on Friday, July 13th with a Mass to follow at 10am at Jesus of the Lord Church, Keyport. An interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.
